Privacy Policy — DNS Changer
Last updated: 2026-07-18
Overview
DNS Changer ("the app", "we", "us") is a utility app that lets you choose which DNS resolver
your device uses. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it's used.
What we collect
- Device identifier: a platform-stable device ID (iOS
identifierForVendor, Android ANDROID_ID) used to enforce plan-based
device limits and to let you use the app as a guest without creating an account.
- Account information (only if you create an account or sign in): email
address, and — if you sign in with Google — the basic profile information Google provides
(name, email).
- DNS server selection: which DNS server (from our list, or one you added
yourself) you've selected. We do not log or inspect the content of your DNS queries or browsing
activity.
- Usage analytics: aggregate, non-identifying events such as which DNS server
was selected (via Firebase Analytics), used to understand feature usage.
- Crash and diagnostic data: automatically collected via Firebase Crashlytics
if the app encounters an error, to help us fix bugs.
- Push notification token: if notifications are enabled, a device token used
to deliver notifications to you.
- Subscription status: if you subscribe to a paid plan, purchase status is
managed by Apple/Google's app store billing systems and RevenueCat; we do not collect your
payment details directly.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not inspect, log, or store the contents of your DNS queries or general network
traffic.
- Free-tier ads (via Google AdMob) may use their own identifiers per Apple/Google's respective
ad policies — see Google's own privacy policy for details on AdMob data handling.
How the DNS feature works
When you select a DNS server, the app changes your device's DNS resolver to the one you
chose, using the platform's own system APIs (on iOS, NEDNSSettingsManager; on
Android, a VpnService that intercepts only DNS traffic on port 53). This is limited
to DNS resolution — the app does not route, inspect, or proxy your general internet traffic.
Your choices
- You can use the app as a guest without providing an email address.
- You can delete your account from within the app; note that this does not automatically
cancel an active App Store/Play Store subscription — those must be cancelled through the
respective store.
- You can disable notifications from your device's system settings.
